MARGARET SANDIEGO
SPORTS
I started sports photography in March of this year for my photo essay project to experiment and try something new with my photography. At the time, I had just recently become a yearbook intern. Each month they have a board with all the home sporting events written on it, so I was intrigued and started going to some of them. First, for my photo essay, I went to track practices. Then, my fellow classmate's lacrosse game. I've never done sports photography beforehand, so it took me a little while to learn the correct shutter speed and work with my zoom lens. I would normally just shoot with my wide lens, but working with sports taught me how to be more comfortable with my zoom lens. I didn't play a sport this school year, so being around a team environment was incredible. I soon became a regular attending these sporting events around campus. At one of the lacrosse games, co-athletic director, Ross Parker, spotted me and asked if I would possibly be interested in being a photo intern for them in the 22-23 school year. Over the last 3 months of my sophomore year, I got to know the various Spring sports teams and made friends with the athletes. Now, I'm currently taking photos for the BHS athletics department and a student coach on the football team.
